เมื่อครั้งที่ยารักษาโรคอ้วน sibutramine ได้วางตลาดภายใต้ชื่อ Meridia หรือ Reductil มันเป็นยาที่ใช้รักษาโรคอ้วนของคนในวัยหนุ่มสาว ซึ่งยานี้ มีผลทำให้ความดันโลหิตต่ำและชีพจรเต็นช้าลงเล็กน้อย

Dr. Stephen R. Daniel จาก University of Colorado School of Medicine บอกว่า โดยรวม ๆ แล้ว ยาดังกล่าวส่งผลกระทบต่อหัวใจเล็กน้อย แต่ยาตัวนี้ ยังไม่มีการนำมาวิจัยกันอย่างจริงจัง สำหรับใช้กับผู้ป่วยที่เป็นวัยรุ่น  ดังนั้น จึงควรจะมีการศึกษาถึงผลกระทบที่จะเกิดกับผู้ใช้ในกลุ่มวัยรุ่นนี้ให้แน่ชัดเสียก่อน เพื่อความปลอดภัย

ผู้เชี่ยวชาญกล่าวอีกว่า การวิจัยก่อนหน้านี้ รายงานเพียงว่า ยาจะทำให้ความดันโลหิตต่ำลงและชีพจรเต้นช้าลง กับกลุ่มผู้ใช้ยาที่เป็นคนหนุ่มสาว และเขาก็ได้ศึกษาผลกระทบนี้ ว่าเกิดกับผู้ใช้ยาเกือบ 500 คน  โดยคนกลุ่มนี้ เป็นวัยหนุ่มสาวทั้งหมด เมื่อครั้งเริ่มศึกษา คนกลุ่มนี้ มีค่า BMI หรือ body-mass index ประมาณ 36 เมื่อผ่านไป 1 ปี ค่า BMI ลดลง 2.9 แต้ม ซึ่งนับว่าให้ผลดี  เมื่อเทียบกับยาในกลุ่ม placebo ซึ่งค่า BMI ลดลงเพียง 0.3 แต้มเท่านั้น ซึ่งความดันโลหิตและชีพจรที่ลดลงเล็กน้อยนั้น เกิดขึ้น ทั้งกับผู้ที่ใช้ยา sibutramine และ placebo

อย่างไรก็ตาม ยังไม่เป็นที่แน่ชัดว่า หากนำยานี้ไปใช้กับกลุ่มผู้ใหญ่ จะส่งผลกระทบต่อหัวในเหมือนกันผู้ใช้ยาที่เป็นวัยรุ่นหรือไม่ และแพทย์เอง ก็ต้องการจะทราบถึงผลกระทบที่แน่ชัด

นอกจากนี้ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญยังบอกอีกว่า การรักษาคนไข้โรคอ้วนนั้น เรื่องของการดูแลพฤติกรรม ยังถือว่าเป็นหลัก โดยเฉพาะในกลุ่มคนไข้วัยรุ่น ถ้าหากจะใช้ยา ก็ต้องพิจารณาเป็นกรณีไป

Along with the whole thing which appears to be developing within this area, your points of view tend to be fairly stimulating. However, I am sorry, because I do not give credence to your entire idea, all be it radical none the less.
